It’s christmas time  !

The Christmas lights are up around town, shops are advertising Christmas presents and the Christmas Coca Cola advert has been on the television. You’re about to decorate the Christmas tree, when you just decided to stop and think. Just for a second, ask yourself, what does “Christmas” actually mean, and where did it come from ? Don’t worry ! I’m not going to go through the Bible ! I’m going to try and give everyone’s view of Christmas, well a very english point of view anyway.

Christmas is supposed to be the day that Jesus was born, and the gifts were for the new born spiritual leader. Year after year the celebrations changed and for many so did the meaning. From figgy pudding to christmas pudding and mince pies, everything has changed. In France there is the Galettes des Rois in January, but in England you put a penny in the Christmas pudding and the person who got the penny would be in the same position as the King from the Galettes des Rois. But we don’t just eat cake at Christmas !

On Christmas morning, children will go and look under the christmas tree or in their christmas stockings for presents ! The family then gathers around the tree and will open presents. After, if you’re not already dressed, you would wear your nicest clothes and get ready for a big Christmas dinner. Roast turkey or chicken or beef, any meat that you want ! With roast potatoes, vegetables, stuffing in the meat, yorkshire puddings and gravy ! After you would play a family game or two, such as pictionary or twister.

Then, time for desert, christmas pudding, or christmas cake, yule log or mince pies ! Then often you would watch a Christmas movie or play more games, and in the evening, you would play games, have snacks with loud Christmas music ! And when it gets late, it doesn’t stop because the next day is boxing day ! Still part of the Christmas holiday ! Boxing day comes from when boys used to go around neighbours houses and ask for money in a little box. But today, the family gathers again for a big lunch of cold meats, bubble and squeak and mashed potato, all that has been left over and recycled from Christmas day ! And still on boxing day, games and films continue without forgeting the Christmas music !

So, Christmas is the time for sharing and being around loved ones, making the most of everybody’s company.

However, this is my point of view on Christmas. But next it’s New Year. If you would like to share or give your point of view, please leave a comment or tweet.
